Description

The series contains material assembled by historian and physicist Dr. John Grenfell Jenkin in the process of researching and preparing for publication an article on Horace Lamb, founding Professor of Mathematics and teacher of physics at the University of Adelaide. It contains large quantities of notes on and copies of archival records created during the University's early years (1870s and 1880s), with an emphasis on the recruitment and contributions of Lamb. A considerable amount of correspondence between Jenkin and archivists, librarians and fellow historians in Australia and the United Kingdom is included. Also of interest are a number of responses from Lamb's descendants and other notable figures such as Sir Mark Oliphant to Jenkin's research.
