Mr Michael Abbott is a Barrister and a law graduate of Adelaide University (LLB 1966). He has been actively involved with the University as the Chair of the organising committee of the 1st Australian Universities International Alumni Convention, held in Adelaide from 4 to 6 October 1998 and as Deputy Chair of the 2nd Convention held in Kuching last year. He has travelled extensively throughout Asia meeting University of Adelaide Alumni. Mr Abbott was the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the University for 3 years and has recently accepted appointment as Chairman of the new Benefactors and Friends Committee of the University. Mr Abbott is a Board Member of the Australian Business Arts Foundation and is Chairman of the Australia-India Council (both Federal bodies). He has recently completed three years as President of the South Australian Bar Association. He has lectured on Asian
and Indian Art and is a member or has been a member of the Boards of the Foundations of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
