Games Development Club
Date Range: 2009 - 2010

The Games Development Club, GDC for short, was formed on the 8th August 2009 after the clubs IGM (Inaugural General Meeting).

The idea for the GDC came from club founder Izzy Gramp. The first IGM saw around 60 participants and a committee was elected. The club ran regular events such as Game Brainstorming sessions, talks, replaying of documentaries, game jams and BBQ's.

Towards the end of 2010 interest in the club had waned and the committee decided that a University Club was not the best means to support the community and that the club would be concluded at years end. The club donated remaining money to the Barr Smith Library to buy game development books.

Graduates Union
formerly Graduates Association
Date Range: 1920 -

Founded in 1920 as The Graduates Association of the University of Adelaide was established "for the general purpose of promoting the spirit of corporate unity among the members of the University". Open initially to all graduates of the University and, from 1926, to graduates of any recognised university and to all holders of a diploma or a final certificate. It was governed by a committee of eleven - five officers and six other graduates - which was elected annually. In 1930 it amalgamated with the University Union as a result of which graduates were admitted the use of the Union buildings, facilities and other privileges. The constitution of the committee was altered in 1930 to comprise a chairman, secretary and 18 graduates. A small executive committee was also established.

In 1952, following a review by a Special Committee of the University Council, the Graduates Association was reconstituted as the Adelaide University Graduates Union with administrative assistance from the University, a grant from graduation fees and a new committee structure (President, Vice-President and 17 members), but with its objects unchanged. In 1967 the Union became a foundation member of the Australian federation of University Graduates, expanding its area of involvement in graduate affairs.

A Graduates Fund was established in 1967 to provide equipment and books or to support public appeals on behalf of the University. A further fund was initiated in 1979 as a memorial to Constance M. Eardley and the Graduates Union R C Heddle Postgraduate Awards were initiated in 1981 to assist postgraduate students.
