University Association Minutes |
|
The records consist of the minutes of the University Association which was constituted in 1872 to promote the establishment of a university in Adelaide. The Association's aims were to secure further members and financial support, appoint professors and lecturers, arrange classes and to establish the university formally by Act of Parliament. Following the passage of the Bill in November 1874, the University Council was appointed and the Association lapsed, holding a final meeting in May 1875 to formally disband itself and authorise transfer of its records to the University.

The Public Examinations Board was first appointed by the University Council in 1901 in order to conduct public examinations in general and commercial education. In 1924, it was expanded to include other educational institutions and members were appointed by the Minister of Education. The Manuals include information on syllabus, regulations, copies of examination papers and notes by examiners. To 1969, they also included pass lists.

Australian Music Examinations Board Public Examinations Manual |
|
The Australian Music Examinations Board was formed in 1907 as a joint scheme between the Universities of Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmania and Queensland and later included the University of Western Australia and the NSW State Conservatorium of Music. The Board was responsible for the management of musical education of all grades. The Manual contains information on syllabus, regulations, examination papers and early volumes contained lists of students.

The records contain the 1895-98 minutes and include those of the foundation meeting to establish the Adelaide University Union and minutes of subsequent annual general meetings. There are also the 1928-29 signed minutes for the General Committee and Finance Committee and recommendations from the Men's Union Committee regarding Union areas to be reserved for male students. A printed copy of the Constitution of the Adelaide University Union is pasted to the first page with annotated amendments made by Council, October 1928. There is also a pasted list of Students Union Committee members. The second half of the volume comprises Wages Sheets for 1942-46.

Australian Music Examinations Board Minutes |

The Australian Music Examinations Board was officially formed in 1918. Prior to this a joint scheme originally established in 1906 between the University of Melbourne and the University of Adelaide's Music Examinations Board established a system of public examinations in music theory and practice. Tasmania, Queensland, Western Australia and later the NSW State Conservatorium of Music subsequently joined the scheme. The Board was responsible for the management of musical education of all grades. The series consists of minutes of the annual conference first held in 1912 to consider issues relating to music education and examination. Copies of some missing minutes are held in the South Australian Music Examinations Board minutes (see Series1360). There are also copies of confidential minutes from 1971-1983,
