- Coffee as a supervisory technique
- Can having coffee with your students be considered a supervisory technique? Dr Susan Hemer (Discipline of Anthropology) takes us through the pros and cons in this thoughtful short review, developed for the Exploring Supervision program in 2009.
- Expectations Questionnaire
- An expectations questionaire can be a useful means of seeing what level of agreement or difference there might be between your understandings of how the research degree program will unfold and the understandings of your students. So please see this pdf version of such a questionaire developed for use at the University of Adelaide, together with instructions for use. And if you would like to customise it for your own purposes, here is a doc version of the file that you can edit as you see fit.
- fIRST website for supervision training
- The fIRST website includes tools for supervisors, as well as materials aimed at the professional development of supervisors. You will need log-in details to access the members section of the site. Please contact us for these.
- Plagiarism
- In this article, Dr Cally Guerin (Researcher Education & Development) argues that a focus on the development of an authorial voice can be effective in assisting English as Additional Language research students avoid plagiarism.
- Student self-evaluation & assessment form
- Developed by Dr Marilyn Clarke (Business School) for the 2009 Exploring Supervision Program, the Self Evaluation & Assessment form has been designed to help students think about their needs and skills, and to assist supervisors in assessing progres and identifying areas where support is needed.
- Thesis Topic Selection Tool
- Andrew Rosser (Discipline of Anthropology) has devised a tool to assist research students and their supervisors in selecting a dissertation topic. Read the pdf or download the original powerpoint file. This was developed for the 2009 Exploring Supervision Program.
- Workshop materials - Exploring Supervision Program
- We have posted onto MyUni pdf files of slide presentations & handouts from the three Exploring Supervsion Program workshops. To access these, log into MyUni, locate & open the Writing & Speaking at Uni course, click the Researcher Education & Development link in the left hand navigation panel, and scroll down as necessary on the page that opens up until you find the Exploring Supervision Program folder. Or simply follow this link (logging into MyUni when requested). This will only work if you have University of Adelaide log-in privileges. If you don't, and would like to see this material, please contact us .... Note that these are not stand-alone materials, but require the context of the workshops to be fully comprehensible.
