eResearch SA

eResearch SA is the South Australian provider of high-performance computing, data management and storage, research collaboration, and visualisation services for researchers in SA.

It is a collaborative joint venture between the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, and the University of South Australia.

eResearch SA's mission is to support the development, implementation and use of eResearch methodologies and activities, and to provide access to eResearch facilities and practical support for researchers in SA.

For researchers at the University of Adelaide access to the following services is generally free.

Based at the University of Adelaide's Thebarton campus, eResearch SA provides facilities, services and expertise in:

High-Performance Computing

eResearch SA provides state-of-the-art high performance computing (HPC) facilities and expert user support, enabling South Australia's research community to perform complex data processing and analysis jobs.

Visualisation and 3D Modeling

eResearch SA offers advanced visualisation facilities that you can use to explore abstract concepts, complex data sets, and the structure of objects. Our facilities are applicable to disciplines as diverse as molecular chemistry, art history, and geology.

Research Collaboration

Using eResearch SA's video and web collaboration tools, you can meet, communicate, and exchange data with researchers in Australia and overseas, just as easily as you might with colleagues in your own offices.

Data Management and Sharing

eResearch SA manages more than 400 terabytes of data storage. We provide facilities and support for researchers who need flexible and inexpensive data solutions. Using our services, you can store, access, transfer, backup, and share your data with your colleagues.

Events and Training

eResearch SA runs regular events for South Australian researchers. For a full list of upcoming and past events, view the eResearch SA events page.

eResearch SA also represents South Australia's eResearch interests nationally by:

  • Participating in national eResearch programs, forums and consultations.
  • Providing a South Australian base for national eResearch programs and entities.
  • Coordinating cross-institutional responses to national opportunities.
  • Advocating for South Australia's share of national resources.

eResearch SA is leading South Australia's involvement in the following national initiatives:

  • Research Data Storage Infrastructure (RDSI) Project
eResearch SA, with a firm commitment from the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Flinders University and the State Government, submitted a bid for RSDI funding. Our successful bid will inject $1.5m worth of additional data storage capacity into South Australia.
  • National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources (NeCTAR) Project
eResearch SA's NeCTAR Research Cloud Node bid will allow researchers to access compute facilities that they would otherwise find difficult to resource.
  • Australian eResearch Organisations (AeRO)
Our participation in the Australian eResearch Organisations (AeRO) gives eResearch SA a national voice and encourages collaboration between other eResearch organisations.
  • Australian National Data Service (ANDS)
ANDS is a Government-funded program that seeks to transform Australia's research data into a cohesive body of research resources, the Australian Research Data Commons.
