Peter Couche Foundation
Peter Couche suffered a stroke 20 years ago and he has since lived with ‘Locked-in Syndrome’. Peter’s brain is as sharp and active as ever but he has virtually no physical abilities.
Through sheer determination and courage Peter established The Peter Couche Foundation. The foundation raises awareness and important funds to support innovative research being conducted at the Robinson Institute, using non-embryonic stem cells from adult wisdom teeth (known as dental pulp stem cells) to treat the effects of stroke.
Associate Professor Simon Koblar, one of Australia’s leading stroke researchers, believes that dental pulp stem cell research has great potential to unlock the mysteries of stroke and may help restore brain function to improve the quality of life for stroke sufferers.
