Great Expectations for Life is a new awareness and fundraising campaign for preterm birth.
Apart from the emotional impact on a family affected by preterm birth, there is also a financial impact on society. Neonatal intensive care can cost $3,000 per day. Severely preterm babies can attract medical care costs of up to $200,000 before discharge.
If we can understand why preterm birth happens, reduce the risk of preterm birth and improve the survival and care of babies when they are born preterm, we can help ease these emotional and financial impacts.
