Roseworthy Campus – Our Story
Australia's first agricultural college was established at Roseworthy, 50km north of Adelaide in 1883. Since its establishment, the Australian agricultural industry has recognised Roseworthy Agricultural College as the premier teaching facility for the sector and close partnerships with industry and government research groups have always been a feature of Roseworthy's development.
In 1991, the Roseworthy Agricultural College joined forces with the University of Adelaide's Faculty of Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. In 2002, the Faculty of ANRS and Faculty of Science were merged into the Faculty of Sciences.
Most of the best-known names in agriculture and wine are graduates of the Roseworthy Campus. In more recent times, Roseworthy has become the key campus for research and education in animal production and dryland agriculture.
Roseworthy is continuing its pioneering role with a strategic vision for the 21st century that focuses on combining and integrating resources with campus partners and rural industries to develop the campus as the hub of information transfer, communication, learning and new technologies for the rural community. This vision is already fact with the establishment of two ventures - the Livestock Systems Alliance (LSA) and the Roseworthy Information Centre.
The campus is home to the State Government's Constellation in Animal Science, a major player in five Cooperative Research Centres (Pork, Poultry, Sheep, Beef and Bioremediation); and the JS Davies Beef Cattle Research Centre. Australian Grain Technologies Pty Ltd (AGT) is the largest cereal breeding company in Australia and one of the largest in the world, and has made Roseworthy the centre of its national operations.
Roseworthy is once again leading the way in servicing the vitally important
agricultural sector of Australia. Roseworthy Campus has been reinvigorated
recently with the establishment of a highly-successful Degree
in Animal Science, attracting more than 50 students per year and building
on this success, the awarding of 45 places per year in Veterinary
Science - which commenced in 2008.
