About Us
The South Australian Centre for Economic Studies is a self-funding, joint research unit of the University of Adelaide and the Flinders University of South Australia.
It was established in 1982 with a principal role to review, research and report on economic and public policy issues of relevance to the South Australian and Australian economies.
In recent years the Centre has expanded its scope of operations to also undertake economic studies outside Australia, including in New Zealand, China, Indonesia and other countries of the Asia Pacific region. To achieve its role, the Centre engages in the following activities:
- a Corporate Membership program, which includes the regular provision to Members of Economic Briefing Reports with a detailed assessment of economic conditions and the outlook for Australia and South Australia; and
- Economic Consulting Services, involving the provision of specialist economic research and advice on a fee-for-service basis to both private sector and government clients.
The Centre has a core group of in-house Research Staff, and Support Staff. In addition, the Centre draws on a number of Research Associates who work with the Centre on an ad hoc basis on specific research topics. In undertaking commissioned research and consultancies, and in providing Economic Briefings to Corporate Members, the Centre also draws on the teaching staff of the economics and related disciplines of the two Universities on a contracted basis.
