Student Vacation Employment

The Centre routinely provides summer vacation employment opportunities for third year Economic Graduates who are intending to do Honours Economics.  Up to two positions may be offered, with appointments being for up to two months within the January to February period.

The positions give graduates an opportunity to work on specific projects underway at that time, to work with staff of the Centre, and conduct back ground research including detailed literature reviews. Examples of previous research undertaken include data analysis and literature reviews in relation to Issues Papers that have covered topics including the relative decline of manufacturing employment in South Australia, a review of the macroeconomic performance of the South Australian economy since 1990, and the recent productivity performance of the South Australian economy. Work on the last topic led to the opportunity for the student to attend the ABS Productivity Conference in Canberra.

At this stage the Centre plans to run the student vacation employment program again in January-February 2010, with invitation for applications being advertised in late 2009. Eligible students interested in applying should check the Centre's website in late October or early November 2009 for details.
