University of Adelaide: Honours top-up Scholarships
FOODplus is a centre of research excellence in food and nutrition in the University of Adelaide that is building on the expertise in Agriculture and Health to create novel foods that will improve the health of Australians.
We are seeking Honours students to join our exciting new centre. Our laboratory facilities are based on the Waite Campus and at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. We have clinical trial facilities in the Flinders Medical Centre, the Women's and Children's Hospital, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the KK Women's and Children's Hospital in Singapore.
We conduct a range of studies designed to evaluate the nutritional components of foods and the effects of these components have on the metabolism and health of animals and humans. We have particular interests in the nutritional needs of women and their infants and the effects of dietary fats in regulating heart disease, arthritis and mental development.
We are seeking students who wish to be involved in research that will provide them with a springboard into the Food Industry or as a solid foundation to a career in the growing science of Human Nutrition.
For a glimpse into the research areas of interest to our group please look in the PubMed website (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez) and look for papers under the authorship of Gibson RA or Makrides M or James MJ.
Scholarships for Honours students are $1,000 pa with an extra $500 available for attendance at a national or international conference, depending on research quality.
Students with a background in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Agriculture, Nutrition, Medicine or related areas are encouraged to apply.
