Caroline Hennell Student Profiles

Caroline Hennell

My name is Caroline Hennell and I am currently in my first year of a Bachelor of Arts/Teaching. I come from Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula where my dad is the Maths teacher at the school and my mum is the school chaplain. I have seven younger brothers and sisters.

I am originally from Adelaide, however moved to Tumby Bay in 2000 where I completed my schooling at the local area school. Whilst at school, I studied a range of subjects including English, Maths, Chemistry, Studies of Society and Music. I've thought about doing teaching for a couple of years so when it came to putting down my Uni preferences, the double degree of teaching and arts at the University of Adelaide was top of the list. Although I'm hoping to major in English and History, the Arts degree has also allowed me the flexibility to also study Maths early in my degree.

I was lucky enough to receive the University of Adelaide South Australian Principal's scholarship for 2007. It's amazing how much of a difference it made to me when preparing to move out of home to come to Adelaide. It eased the pressure of the transition between school and uni because finding a job wasn't a necessity anymore. The scholarship has helped considerably as it has allowed me to find my feet in my first year out of home and concentrate on my studies without having to worry about finding a job to cover costs.

After completing my degree I hope to return to the country to teach. I love the relaxed country lifestyle and had a great time going to school there. Hopefully, I get the same enjoyment out of teaching in a country school!
