IBA Scholarship Fund 2010

Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) is opening its first main round of the IBA Scholarship Fund in August 2009, which will close end of September 2009. This round would be suitable for applicants who wish to commence study in early 2010.

IBA is an Australian Government Statutory Authority with a charter to advance the commercial and economic interests of Indigenous Australians. Its vision is for a nation in which the First Australians are economically independent and an integral part of the economy.

The IBA Scholarship Fund aims to contribute to economic development in Indigenous communities by providing opportunities for mature age Indigenous Australians to develop their financial knowledge and skills through education. The fund is focused on mature age Indigenous Australians to use the skills and knowledge gained from study to enrich the economic and financial development of their community.

Course Type

The Scholarship will support Commercial and Economic Management courses in the areas of:

Business
Finance
Leadership

The qualification can be gained through:

Vocational Education and Training (VET) or TAFE course
Undergraduate degree
Capability Training short course

Applications for full time, rather than part time study are preferred.

Eligibility

-  Of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent

-  An Australian resident

-  Of mature age - not younger than 19 years old, and did not finish secondary school within the previous 18 months

-  Demonstrated support from their employer, community or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation to undertake study. 

Financial Assistance

The Scholarship provides tailored financial assistance to successful recipients to undertake their chosen course at their preferred institution. Financial assistance is for the course duration and will not exceed four years. IBA intends to provide scholarship opportunities to applicants who experience financial barriers to undertake study. The Scholarship can offer comprehensive financial support for successful applicants who may need to study away from home.

Communication costs (telephone, broadband)
IT equipment (lap top, printer)
Living expenses
Transport costs
Child care

Living away from home assistance

Relocation costs
Travel costs for family visits
Accommodation costs
