
This scholarship has been established by Minter Ellison, an international law firm based in Australia. Established in Sydney in 1827, today they are one of the largest law firms operating in the Asia Pacific. More than 280 partners and 900 legal staff work in 15 offices across Australia, New Zealand, the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Mongolia and the United Kingdom.
This scholarship is to benefit a student who is in their first year of a Bachelor of Laws program at the University of Adelaide in 2013. The scholarship will provide $5,000 per year for up to four years to assist with education costs.
Applications are open to Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia and New Zealand citizens undertaking the Bachelor of Laws program. Students undertaking double degrees are eligible to apply, however the maximum duration of the scholarship remains at four years.
Students must be able to demonstrate financial need and be able to provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.
Students from a non-English speaking background, who have a disability, are Indigenous Australians or are from a rural or remote area are particularly encouraged to apply.
Students must be enrolled on a full time basis. For the purposes of the scholarship, students undertaking 75% of a full course load are considered to be enrolled on a full time basis. Students enrolled in a double degree program must be undertaking at least 50% load in the Bachelor of Law program.
Selection for this scholarship will be made according to financial need with a preference given to any applicants who are from a Non-English speaking background, who have a disability, are Indigenous Australians or are from a rural or remote area.
The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered; acceptance of the Scholarship offer cannot be deferred. If a student declines the Scholarship offer, the Scholarship will be offered to the next eligible student.
