The University will invite School Principals from South Australian, Northern Territory, Broken Hill and non metropolitan Victorian Schools to nominate candidates for the Principals’ Scholarships. These scholarships are available to University of Adelaide students of high academic merit, who have also made a significant contribution to their school and to the wider community. The scholarships will provide an allowance of $5,000 to assist with education/living costs for the first year of the student’s study at the University of Adelaide.
To be eligible for nomination students must:
School Principals will be invited to nominate up to two candidates for the Principals’ Scholarships at the University of Adelaide, having regard to the eligibility criteria outlined above. In making their nominations, Principals will take into account candidates’ academic potential as well as their contribution to school life and to the wider community. Nominations must be received no later than Friday 23 November 2012. Late nominations will not be accepted.
One Principals’ Scholarship will be available for each school in South Australia, Northern Territory, Broken Hill and non-metropolitan Victoria, which has candidates completing their Year 12 studies at that school in 2012. In the event that the candidates nominated from an individual school are ineligible to receive an offer of a place, fail to obtain a ATAR of 80 or greater, or do not enrol in 2013, the University reserves the right not to award a Principal’s Scholarship for that school. The offer of a scholarship may not be deferred. However, if the University considers that there are exceptional circumstances that prevent the first eligible candidate from enrolling in 2013 then the University may permit the candidate to defer their scholarship for no more than one year. If approval is given to an eligible candidate to defer their scholarship then no additional award will be made to that school in 2013.
The award of a scholarship is subject to the student’s admission to an undergraduate Bachelor’s program and confirmation of full time enrolment at each of the census dates (31 March and 31 August). The scholarship will be payable in two equal instalments of $2,500 subject to confirmation of continuing eligibility at each of the census dates and satisfactory academic progress in their studies. Students must obtain a Grade Point Average of at least 4.0 at the end of first semester in order to receive the second scholarship instalment.
Students will be eligible to hold both a University of Adelaide Principals’ Scholarship with an Adelaide Undergraduate or an Andy Thomas Scholarship.
