Terry Roberts Memorial Scholarship for Aboriginal* South Australians


The late Terry Roberts was State Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation from 6 March 2002 until his passing on 18 February 2006. He was a passionate advocate for Aboriginal people and won the admiration and respect of South Australia’s Aboriginal communities.

This scholarship is a memorial to Terry Roberts' great compassion, empathy and commitment for Aboriginal people.

The scholarship is intended to assist Aboriginal people to undertake full time undergraduate study at a South Australian university by providing financial assistance towards meeting living and study-related costs.

The scholarship is for up to four years and will be offered to a student who is an Australian citizen and permanent resident of South Australia. The applicant will need to demonstrate that they are Aboriginal and be able to provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of applying.

The value of the scholarship is $2000 per annum for up to four years of full time study and is dependent on satisfactory academic progress.

Applicants must:

 be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and be accepted within their community as such
 be a South Australian citizen or permanent resident of South Australia
 be enrolled as a Commonwealth Supported full time student in their first year of an undergraduate    program of study at a university in South Australia
 be eligible for ABSTUDY, Austudy, Youth Allowance etc
 be motivated to undertake and be committed to the program of studies
 not have previously completed an undergraduate course at any university
