Phil Watters Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship has been established by friends and colleagues to honour the late Phil Watters.

Phil graduated in Agricultural Science from the University of Adelaide (BSc majoring in Horticulture) in 1998. He was subsequently employed as the Technical Officer at Jubilee Almonds at Overland Corner and then at Century Orchards at Loxton. Both orchards have over 400 hectares of irrigated almonds and in addition Century Orchards has 100 hectares of irrigated wine grapes. In his last three years Phil worked on a comprehensive almond trial at Loxton for the Almond Board of Australia. This pioneering work has seen very significant improvements to commercial almond growing, where Australia now leads the world in productivity.

The Scholarship is to benefit a student who is undertaking an Honours program of study in the field of Horticulture or Horticultural related disciplines at the University of Adelaide. The Scholarship will provide an amount of $3,000 payable in two instalments following confirmation of enrolment at the census dates to assist with educational and living costs.
