Library Access for Year 12 students

The University of Adelaide recognises that there may be students in or heading towards year 12 who require access to university-level information. Therefore the Barr Smith Library now provides a special library service for year 12 students. Senior secondary students are welcome to use many of the resources of the University's Barr Smith Library. If your school signs up for the library scheme for schools, you'll actually be able to come in and borrow some of the library's 2 million books and use the massive collection of periodicals and extensive data bases. (Ask your year coordinator whether your school has joined). Please visit the Library's high school service website to find out more information.

If your school is not part of the scheme, there are still lots of free services such as the on-line subject guides which you can access via the internet from home or school; they provide huge amounts of information of use in senior secondary subjects. They have been carefully prepared by our subject librarians and contain hundreds of web links, titles of selected books etc. Visit the Barr Smith Library's website to find out more. You may use the library's on-line catalogue at any time and may also come into the library and use most resources on site without registering as a borrower.

Headstart Scholarship Program

The Headstart Scholarship Program has been developed in consultation with schools to meet the needs of gifted and exceptionally motivated secondary school students who require a challenge beyond the Year 12 curriculum. It is expected that students who take up the offer of a Headstart Scholarship will benefit from and contribute to the intellectual and diverse cultural life of the University.

To find out more, please visit the Headstart web site. Here you will be able to view available Headstart subjects, how to apply and download an application form. This site offers relevant information for teachers and students alike.
