Fire Indicator Panel

Back to Building Fire Safety Features

The Fire Indicator Panel (FIP) will activate an audible alarm signal and indicate the location of where a smoke detector, heat detector, sprinkler or manual call point has operated.

The Fire Indicator Panel must :

  • be clearly visible and readily accessible from the main entrance to the building
  • contain block plans detailing the zones/circuits for the Fire Service

The Fire Indicator Panel may also, depending on the configeration :

  • Alert the fire service
  • Alert security
  • Sound external bells
  • Shutdown air-conditioning
  • Activate the Emergency Warning and Intercommunication system
  • Automatically close fire/smoke doors
  • Release designated exit doors

In an alarm situation, the Chief Warden will present to the Fire Indicator Panel to identify the area in alarm, record evacuation status from Wardens and liaise with the Fire Service on their arrival.

It is illegal to tamper with a Fire Indicator Panel.
In a genuine fire alarm situation, the Fire Indicator Panel door must remain closed until the arrival of the fire service.
