Warning and Intercommunication System
Back to Building Fire Safety Features
| Where an Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System (EWIS) is installed, wall mounted WIPs shall be provided for the purpose of communicating between the Chief Warden at the Panel and individual Wardens. They are generally red. When the Warden lifts the handset from its cradle, a tone shall be heard at the EWIS by the Chief Warden. A flashing indicator will also be visible and continue until the call has been addressed. There is the ability for the Chief Warden to conduct a group
conversation with up to five Wardens at a given time, call individual
Wardens or address all WIPs simultaneously. |
Emergency communications via the WIP is only possible, when the Chief Warden is present at the panel. ie It is not connected to the Security Office.
Chief Wardens and Wardens are provided with additional training on how to use the Warden intercommunication system in an Emergency.
