Silent Witness
Your Confidentiality
The reports that are lodged from the Silent Witness site are
kept strictly confidential. However, there are ways people may be able
to get information about your report from your web browser. You
can prevent this and retain your privacy and anonymity by following
these steps before leaving the computer.
-
Clear your browser cache.
The cache in your web browser stores pages and images that
you have visited so that the browser doesn't always need to
reload them from the web. You should clear this to remove
any information regarding your Silent Witness report.
Netscape and Mozilla:
From the "Edit" menu select "Preferences". Then from the
"Advanced" menu in the left hand pane of the preferences
dialogue select "Cache". Click on both the "Clear Memory
Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache" buttons which appear in the
right hand pane.
Internet Explorer:
From the "Tools" menu select "Internet Options". Then select
the "General" tab on the dialogue box. Click on the "Clear
History" button.
-
Close your browser.
Even though the cache and all associated information has
now been cleared, you should also consider closing down
your web browser before leaving your computer. This will
clear any history information that the browser keeps to
allow you to revisit pages you have browsed in this session.
You can generally close the browser by selecting "Quit" from
the "File" menu. Note that selecting "Close" or just
clicking on the window close control in the top right hand
corner will only close that window, by quitting the browser
you make sure you shut it down completely.
