Judging Criteria for Venture Showcase

Part I – Hygiene Test          50%

In their Concept Proposal, does the team:

  • Give a clear functional description of their business concept?
  • Define clearly and realistically the expected customers?
  • Identify clearly the existing market players?
  • Differentiate their business concept from the competition?
  • Substantiate their claims as to their value proposition?
  • Demonstrate a clear and realistic revenue model for their business concept?
  • Show a balance of skills among the team members?
  • Present their plan clearly and concisely overall?
  • Show high potential in developing a business plan in the later stages of the competition?
  • Give any indication of holes in their strategy or lacking skills in their team composition.

Part II – Innovation and Commercial Viability       50%

  • Innovation          25%
    Is the business idea innovative? Is it clearly different from what currently exists? Will it fill a market need?
  • Commercial Potential         25%
    Does the business idea show commercial potential? Is the idea attractive and realistic? Does the revenue model show the team has an understanding of the business? Does the revenue model present a realistic payback period? 

Judging Criteria for Final Judging

Teams are required to present a 20-minute Oral Pitch to the judging panel. The Oral Pitch will be followed by a 10-minute Question & Answer Session, and a 10-minute feedback from the judges.
The plan and the business pitch will be judged as follows:

Formal Presentation (Qualtity of Pitch and Q&A session)25%
Overall Commercialisation Potential35%

Part I – Written Business Plan         40%

The Written Business Plan will be judged on the 9 key areas as reflected in the Business Plan Template. Namely:

  • Executive Summary
  • Company Overview
  • Products and Services
  • Market & Marketing Strategy
  • Operations
  • Management
  • Financial Plan
  • The Investment Proposition
  • Written Presentation

Part II – Formal Verbal Presentation        25%

The formal verbal presentation will be judged based on the quality of the pitch, and the Q&A session:

  • Presentation
  • Articulation
  • Visual Aids

Part III – Overall Commercial Viability        35%

  • Market Opportunity
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Management Capability
  • Financial Understanding
  • Investment Potential


Originality

The business idea that forms the basis of your Team’s Concept Proposal must originate from one or more of the members of your team as listed on the registration form
                                                                   OR
If the idea has been patented by, or is the property of a third party, the originator of the idea must agree in writing to the use of the idea by your team, and must be expressly credited in your Concept Proposal and Oral Pitch.
