Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration)
Program OutlineThe Discipline of Nursing at the University of Adelaide brings together an energetic, enthusiastic group of nursing clinicians and academics interested in furthering nursing as a practice and as a discipline. Alongside our high quality nursing research programs we offer an undergraduate program and a wide range of specialist Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas, Master degrees and Doctoral degrees in nursing through coursework and research. We are closely aligned with clinical practice in the hospital, the community, long stay residential care and regional rural hospitals. We are also affiliated with a range of world-class teaching hospitals, nursing homes and community health services and have close collaborative links with other professions within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Adelaide. Our philosophy of learning can be most fully realised through the incorporation of extensive clinical experience in its programs. The Discipline of Nursing contends that nursing practice and its practitioners are rich in this knowledge and expertise and that it is through the encounter with practice and practising nurses that students uncover and internalise in-depth understandings into the Discipline of Nursing. The Discipline of Nursing is committed to high quality, innovative teaching and academic staff have established reputations in both their own specialist fields and in creative approaches to teaching and learning. The value of nursing practice is central to all of the Discipline’s teaching; and ways of integrating practice and knowledge by practitioners and academic staff are constantly being pursued. The Discipline of Nursing believes that an understanding of the discipline of nursing is best achieved through the interpretation of extensive, guided experience and the rigorous pursuit of nursing knowledge through research and scholarship. The undergraduate program will focus in experential learning and academic rigour, facilitating the effective integration of theory and practice.
