Program Outline

The organisations of today have complex infrastructure and technology-based projects which bring about significant social, environmental and economic impacts. As such, these organisations need the skills to manage multiple projects to achieve organisational goals; they need to understand the context of projects and follow a clear project model.

Studies in project management focus on achieving goals. Graduates in project management are sought after by employers. The courses include a strong focus on processes and tools required to achieve outcomes and industry-specific case studies, class discussions and assignments based on real projects, including the participant’s own workplace projects.

Project management programs guide you through the leading-edge project management concepts, with a strong emphasis on holistic and systems-based project management methods, combined with the practical application of concepts, techniques and tools. There is flexibility to select options from entrepreneurship and commercialisation.

Professional Accreditation

  • The University of Adelaide is a Registered Education Provider (R.E.P).
  • An R.E.P is an organisation approved by PMI to issue Professional Development Units (PDU) for its training courses.
  • From July 2008 onwards, project management courses are registered with Professional Engineer's Board (PEB) Singapore.
  • Professional Development Units (PDU) will be issued by PEB upon completion of course(s).
  • The PEB Singapore is a statutory board in the Ministry of National Development.

Graduation and Degree

Postgraduates who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate of in Applied Project Management or Graduate Diploma in Applied Project Management Program will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Applied Project Management or Graduate Diploma in Applied Project Management degree by the University of Adelaide. The degree and transcript will be the same as that awarded to on-campus postgraduates.

Students may participate in the University of Adelaide's graduation ceremony on campus or at Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre.


Teaching and Courses

Teaching is provided by core academic staff from Entrpreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre of The University of Adelaide, by staff from other departments within the University and by experienced management educators drawn from high quality management schools.

The program is based on the international PMBOK standard. All core courses are designed so they may be taken fully in distance mode.

  • 7 years work experience supported by a portfolio of evidence

  • Graduate Certificate in Project Management, or

Career Opportunities

This program provides the knowledge for graduates to develop their own companies based on their background and interests, enabling graduates to move from technical fields into management positions. Many careers in project management exist in areas such as IT, defence, mining, manufacturing and construction. Further careers are available in defence, management of climate change and mining.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the content and techniques of project management at advanced levels, which are internationally recognised—this is achieved through use of the PMBOK model, which originates from the Project Management Institute of the USA.
  • The ability to locate, analyse, evaluate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources in a planned and timely manner—the course notes are structured to achieve this.
  • The ability to apply effective, creative and innovative solutions, both independently and
    cooperatively, to current and future problems—again course notes are structured to achieve this and the Business and Project Creation Courses and 12 Unit Project in Project Management aim at innovation.
  • Skills of a high order in interpersonal understanding, teamwork and communication—
    professionally recognised skills are an objective of the program; groupwork is an integral
    component.
  • A proficiency in the appropriate use of contemporary technologies—course remains contemporary through regular review.

FrequencyEach course is taught over two intensive teaching block of 15 hours each.

Intensive Teaching Block

A typical intensive teaching block is as follows:
Friday: 7.00 p.m. - 10.00 p.m.
Saturday: 1.00 p.m. - 8.00 p.m.
Sunday: 9.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.

Total duration for the each course:

The total contact hours per course is 30 hours over ONLY 2 weekends with an interval of 3 to 4 weeks break between each weekend.
