Preparatory Course to the Final Year 
in Bachelor of Computer Science                         

This course provides the required level of understanding and up-to-date knowledge for students who have the relevant diplomas and/or IT working experience to enter the Final Year of the Bachelor of Computer Science degree program from the University of Adelaide.

Course Modules

The Preparatory Course consists of 4 modules:

1. Java Programming 1

This course provides an introduction to programming in Java. Topics covered include variables, control structures, number types, strings, arithmetic operators, relational operators, methods, input/output, classes and subclasses. Each session consists of 1 hour lecture and 1.5 hour computer laboratory practical.

2. Java Programming 2

This course provides an introduction to programming in Java. Topics covered includesvariables, control structures, array, arraylist, operator precedence, exception, text files, formatted output, recursion. Each session consists of 1 hour lecture and 1.5 hour computer laboratory practical.

3. Introduction to Discrete Mathematics

This course provides an introduction to discrete mathematics.  Topics covered include propositional logic, truth tables, sets and its operations and functions.

4. Information Encoding

This course introduces fundamental topics that are essential to computing. It covers topics including different number systems, its operations and conversion; and representation of numbers in computer.

Assessment 

  • One 30-minute Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) test per module, and
  • One Programming Project

Upon Completion

Students who obtain a satisfactory pass will gain entry to the Final Year of Bachelor of Computer Science degree program by the University of Adelaide.
