Illumin8

A proposed 3D concept of Illumin8.

Illumin8

The University of Adelaide is embarking on the redevelopment of the lower level of the North Terrace Campus to create an exciting new science precinct (Illumin8).

The site previously occupied by Union Hall will be redeveloped to build a world-leading centre for science, incorporating our new Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS), a 420-seat lecture theatre and additional teaching and research facilities.

This development will help accommodate urgent demands for increased space to cater for the University's rapidly expanding student numbers and research activity.

This development is being collectively funded by the Federal Government, the University and the State Government, the latter contributing $5 million to the IPAS project. With these world-class facilities, IPAS will develop new technologies focusing on some of the big problems in health, the environment, industrial processes and defence.

These facilities will be co-located next to the Molecular Life Sciences building and the Benham and Mawson laboratories, creating a science hub on the North Terrace Campus.
