Cultural and Community Obligations Leave

Cultural Obligations Leave

A staff member is entitled in any one year period, to take up to a total of three working days paid leave for absences for the purpose of fulfilling cultural requirements and obligations that are a recognised part of a staff member’s identified or adopted culture or with which a staff member's partner, family and/or community group identifies.

In addition to this, a staff member who identifies and is accepted as a member of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community will be entitled to 10 days leave without pay, in every two year period, for ceremonial or cultural purposes.

Defence Forces Leave

A staff member is entitled to an annual maximum paid period of leave of 20 working days to enable them to engage in training as a member of the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) Reserve.

A staff member engaged in the ADF Reserve service and taking more than 10 working days in any financial year must complete, with assistance of their supervisor, an application form for the ADF Employer support Payment Scheme (ESPS) and forward the completed form to Human Resources.

Jury Service Leave

A staff member, who is required to attend for jury service will be granted leave at ordinary pay for the purpose of doing so, including necessary travelling. Any jury fee received other than incidentals must be forfeited to the University.

Witness Leave

A staff member who is required to appear as a witness in any case will be granted leave (including necessary travelling) at ordinary pay for the purpose of so doing, but will forfeit to the University any witness fee received other than daily incidentals.
