Equity & Diversity
The University of Adelaide is committed to the principles of social justice, equal opportunity and cultural diversity in the course of all University activities and relationships. The Gender, Equity and Diversity Committee (GED) supports the University in meeting it's equity & diversity priorities.
New staff are required to undergo Equity & Diversity training as part of a successful induction.
Health Safety and Wellbeing
The HSW Team is dedicated to ensuring the health and wellbeing of all staff, students and visitors of the University. HSW are responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and review of HSW Policies & Guidelines, investigating incidents, identifying and managing hazards, reviewing hazard control methods, providing HSW training, and managing workers rehabilitation and compensation.
Online HSW training is an induction requirement for all new staff.
Health Services
The University Health Service is part of Parklands Medical Practice on the North Terrace campus and delivers General Practitioner services available to all staff of the University.
The University's Employee Assistance Program which provides free short term counselling assistance to employees experiencing personal difficulties at work or outside of work.
The Health Safety and Wellbeing Team's Health Promotion website is a good source for personal health information for employees.
Fitness & Recreation
Stay fit and meet new people by getting involved in the many fitness activities enjoyed by University of Adelaide staff and students.
The University Sports Association has 37 sports and recreation clubs throughout the University - you may even like to start your own!
The University also offers gymnasium facilities at the Sports Hub, including free weights, cardio equipment, and classes such as aerobics, yoga, cross training and dancing, as well as a games room. Indoor sports facilities are also available at Thebarton campus.
Professional Development
Staff Development
The University of Adelaide's reputation for excellence is derived from the quality of its staff and their leadership skills. The aim of the University's Staff Development program is to increase the skills, knowledge and aptitudes of staff, in defined areas, so as to increase their competence and performance, thereby supporting the goals of the University. Many personal and professional development courses are available, with most training conducted by on-campus providers.
Planning and Development Review (PDR)
Through reviewing achivements and met objectives, and setting goals for the future, the Professional Development Review is a process that ensures staff are supported to develop their skills and abilities, workloads are managed, and staff are commended for their achievements.
Staff Survey
In order to provide an optimum working experience, The University carries out periodic staff surveys to monitor and respond to issues of staff importance. The outcome of previous surveys has seen feedback incorporated into Faculty and Divisional initiatives where possible.
Staff Services
Parking
A range of University parking permit options are available for permanent staff or staff on a contract of three months or more. Various permit categories apply, depending on the personal needs and job role of the applicant. There is generally a waiting list for car parking permits to be used on and around the North Terrace campus. Parking permit fees can be deducted from your salary each fortnight.
Childcare
On-campus childcare facilities are available at the North Terrace, Roseworthy and Waite campuses. Full-time, part-time and occasional care is provided Monday-Friday throughout the year, except on Public Holidays and for part of the Christmas/New Year break. Waiting lists may apply.
Security
Security Services aim to provide a safe campus environment for all staff, students and visitors to the University. They provide information on how to report a crime, protect your personal property and deal with various emergency situations. Security Services also provide a night shuttle/escort service, self-defence classes and oversee the University's Emergency Management plan and lost/found property.
Identity Cards
Once appointed, new permanent staff or staff on a contract of three months or more are issued with an identity card, which is used as a staff ID, building access card and library card.
