In and Around Adelaide

One of the many beaches
in South Australia

There is plenty to see and do in the City of Adelaide.

Some of the city's popular tourist destinations can be found along the North Terrace boulevard, which is also home to the University of Adelaide's main campus. These include the SA Museum, Art Gallery and State Library, while close by are the Adelaide Zoo (home to the only giant pandas in the southern hemisphere) and the magnificent Botanic Gardens.

Adelaide is home to the Central Market, the largest undercover produce market in the southern hemisphere; and the city has several bustling restaurant strips, including Gouger Street and Rundle Street.

Less than 30 minutes from the city lie Adelaide's beaches, which can be enjoyed all year round.

Visit the official website of South Australia Tourism for more information on the city of Adelaide, or take a look at the official City Guide.

Beyond the City

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island,
South Australia

Adelaide’s central location makes it an ideal base from which to explore the rest of the state and country. Adelaide is the gateway to the outback: the dramatic Flinders Ranges, the natural beauty of Kangaroo Island, the Murray River and the various coastal towns and beaches along our 3,800 kilometre coastline.

South Australia is known as the wine capital of Australia and offers 16 different wine regions to choose from. Adelaide itself has over 200 cellar doors on its doorstep, all within  a one hour drive of the city. Popular wine regions include the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale, which all offer splendid wineries, food producers, villages and natural attractions.

Sharing borders with all of Australia's mainland states as well as the Northern Territory means South Australia is also a great base from which to explore the rest of Australia.

Visit the official website of South Australia Tourism for more information on the various regions of South Australia.
