Applicants who have undertaken any study towards a university degree or diploma are not eligible to apply through special entry for the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or the Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
*The age restriction is 19 years or over if you have completed either the Flinders Foundation course or the UniSA Foundation Studies program or the UniSA Program for Adult Learners.

Adelaide Category 2 program requirements, Adelaide Category 3 program requirements
Standard requirements for special entry applicants to University of Adelaide category 2 and category 3 programs. These programs are available to special entry applicants who are at least 21 years old on 1 January of the year they wish to enrol*, irrespective of their academic record at secondary or tertiary level.
*The age restriction is 19 years or over if you have completed either the Flinders Foundation course or the UniSA Foundation Studies program or the UniSA Program for Adult Learners.

AQF
Australian Qualifications Framework - a national system for standardising the relativities between TAFE qualifications and university qualifications.

EE
Employment experience - statement of work experience, if applicable, required for special entry applicants for most programs at the University of Adelaide. See the special entry section of the SATAC Uni Guide for further information.

FTE
Full-time Equivalent - allows the period of tertiary study to be counted on the basis of how many years (or part thereof) of the program were completed at 100% study load, rather than on how long in calendar years it may have taken.

GPA
Grade Point Average - a system of scoring university results that takes into account both the grade received and the relative length (or 'weight') of each program studied; on a scale of 0 to 7.00, with 4.00 = pass average, and 7.00 = high distinction average. See the SATAC Uni Guide for examples of how to calculate the GPA of your tertiary studies.

Group 1 subjects
SACE Stage 2 subjects in the arts/humanities/social and cultural studies category.

Group 2 subjects
SACE Stage 2 subjects in the maths/science/technology category.

HESS
Higher Education Selection Subjects; SACE/NTCE Stage 2 subjects (or interstate, overseas or IB equivalents) approved by South Australian universities as suitable for determining entry to undergraduate programs. The subjects approved as HESS vary from university to university and from program to program. See Selection criteria for identification of programs that have HESS General or HESS Restricted requirements.

HESS General
The four HESS may be any four HESS General subjects.

HESS Restricted
The four HESS may be any four HESS General or HESS Restricted subjects.

IB
International Baccalaureate Diploma, an internationally recognised secondary school qualification, comparable to SACE/NTCE for university entry purposes.

NTCE
The Northern Territory Certificate of Education, interchangeable with the SACE for university entry purposes.

NGP
Non-graded pass.

Non-default wtgs
Non-default weightings - see "PC" entry below.

PC
Personal Competencies statement - required for special entry applicants for most programs at the University of Adelaide. There are six areas or criteria that you are required to address in your Personal Competencies statement: tertiary preparation (1), tertiary maturity (4), independent learning strategies (4), interpersonal and communication skills (2), achievement and experience (5) and skills and knowledge (4). The numbers in brackets are the default weightings assigned to each criterion out of a total of 20, but non-default weightings are used in some programs. See the special entry section of the SATAC Uni Guide for guidelines and instructions on preparing these statements.

Prerequisites
Subjects that all applicants to certain programs are required to have successfully completed before being considered for entry to those programs. Program prerequisites are usually SACE Stage 2 subjects (or their interstate, overseas, IB or tertiary equivalents), and must be passed with a minimum subject achievement score of 10 out of 20. Special entry applicants must meet any nominated program prerequisites.

SACE
South Australian Certificate of Education - the standard year 12 qualification for entry to university studies in the State (with interstate, international and International Baccalaureate equivalents). Interchangeable with Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE) for university entrance purposes.

Special Entry
Category of university applicants who do not normally hold standard year 12 or higher education qualifications. For the University of Adelaide, all special entry applicants must be over 21 years of age on January 1 in the year of entry, and meet other conditions depending on the program. See Adelaide category 1, 2 and 3 program requirements entries above. Special entry applicants need to meet any nominated program prerequisites (or their equivalent). See prerequisites entry above.

STAT
Special Tertiary Admissions Test - required for special entry applicants to most programs at the University of Adelaide. See the special entry section of the SATAC Uni Guide for details on fees and sitting times. The STAT is divided into two sections, verbal and quantitative - with each section counting for 50% of the total marks available. However some programs at the University of Adelaide assign a different weighting to the two sections.

Structured oral assessment
Formal panel-based structured interview used as part of the selection process for applicants to Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and the Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH).

TER
Tertiary Entrance Rank - the ranking to which all year 12 applicant results (SACE, pre-SACE South Australian year 12, interstate, international and IB equivalents) are converted. School-leavers with interstate/overseas equivalents and applicants studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) have their final results converted to a South Australian TER by SATAC.

UMAT
Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admissions Test - required for all applicants to the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), and the Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH). Contact the Faculty of Health Sciences (8303 5336) or the Student Centre (8303 5208) for further information.
