Careers on the Move 2009 Engineering Industry-Connect

Engineering students were taken to the ASC facility at Osborne and the Lion-Nathan Brewing to get a glimpse of how engineering is making a big impact on the world. At Lion Nathan students saw how beer is manufactured and bottled as well as part of the factory off limits to the general tours. At ASC students were able to see first hand the multi-million dollar projects happening at ASC including Australian Warfare Destroyers and highly restricted worksites.

Final year Electrical and Electronic Engineer students participated in a half day visit to Codan. Codan is a unique Adelaide based company that designs and manufactures a diversified product range for the international high frequency radio, satellite and metal detection markets. The students were given an overview of Codan’s graduate program and first hand information from senior engineering professionals.

A hands-on experience was provided to 20 Aerospace Engineers during a visit to Adelaide Flight Training Centre at Parafield Airport. Students were taken on a behind the scenes tour of the aircraft hangar and were given a close-up view of the mechanics of helicopters and airplanes by the engineering manager and his staff. Students also experienced landing and taking-off an aircraft in a state of the art flight simulator used by pilots in training. A tour of the Air Traffic Control tower highlighted the complexities of managing air traffic. The visit was a huge success as it provided students with an insight into the high level of maintenance required to keep pilots and passengers safe in flight. Big congratulations to Zi Chang Cheah for winning a one-hour instructional flight with Flight Training Adelaide!
