Can I find out about immigration?

The International Student Centre hosts presentations on campus from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), at which a Department representative presents information about immigration, permanent residency and Australian citizenship. These presentations are held at mid year and near the end of the year. For information, contact the International Student Centre.

Each year, the Careers Service hosts an International Careers Evening, also attended by DIAC. Enquire about the event via email or search CareerHub for event details.

Students can also visit the following for information about visiting, working, studying or living in Australia:

1.       www.immi.gov.au

2.       Call DIAC on 131 881

3.       Phone GSM enquiry line on 1300 364 613

4.       Website GSM enquiry

Can I get graduate work without Permanent Residency (PR)?

Large organisations often want candidates to have PR before they can be offered graduate vacancies. However, some organisations do not require it, so it is important to check. Explore opportunities with smaller organisations, or part time and contract work.

Language and Cultural Exchange Program

The International Student Centre organises a Language and Cultural Exchange Program which encourages all staff and students to interact with people from another culture/country on campus through mutual exchange. It is a fun and rewarding program, open to international and domestic students as well as university staff. For domestic students, this could be an advantage that enhances your career prospects both overseas and within Australia!

The program consists of two schemes:

  • Language Exchange Program: if you already have a second language and/or are learning another language as part of your degree, this is the program for you
  • Cultural Exchange Program: if you wish to socialise and befriend students from different countries without having to learn the language, please select this program

Note: if English is your second language and you are not enrolled in a language course, please select the Cultural Exchange Program.

To find out more about this opportunity for language exchange or social/cultural interaction, visit the Language and Cultural Exchange Program website or call the International Student Centre on 08 8313 0556.
