“As I was one of only twelve students to complete an internship with Schlumberger in Australia, my future employment prospects are very good as I enter my final year.”
As part of my studies I was interested in gaining industry experience. I knew that Schlumberger are key players in the oil industry on a global scale, so I had a look at their website and found information about student internship opportunities over the December 2008 summer vacation.
I prepared my résumé and cover letter and had them checked by the University Careers Service. I was successful in obtaining an interview - finishing me in the top eighty candidates from a pool of over a thousand applicants from Australia and New Zealand! From the information I found on the CareerHub and advice from the Careers Service staff members, I was able to go into the interview feeling confident as I felt very prepared.
During my internship I had the opportunity to work on a Schlumberger technical project looking into the functionality of yet to be released industry standard software: Petrel Reservoir Engineering. As I was one of only twelve students to complete an internship with Schlumberger in Australia, my future employment prospects are very good as I enter my final year. This experience has inspired me to seek and secure a graduate position as a Petrotechnical Engineer.
