Graduations - What Next?

Applications for a Semester 2, 2009 Conferral of Award (for students expecting to complete their program in Semester 2 2009) closed 5pm on Friday 20 November 2009.

If you have missed this deadline, or if you are expecting to complete in Summer School 2010, applications to graduate are still open and close 5pm on Friday 29 January 2010 for a Summer School 2010 Conferral of Award. You must lodge an application via the Graduations section of Access Adelaide.
 
If you have applied for a Semester 2, 2009 Conferral of Award, there are some important dates and deadlines that you need to be aware of.

1. For Masters and PhD Research students only, the last day to submit the final, bound copies of your thesis to the Graduate Centre is 5pm on Friday 11 December 2009.
2. For students who are required to surrender a parchment from a previous award the deadline to do so is 5pm on Tuesday 15 December 2009.
3. You must log in to Access Adelaide on Wednesday 16 December 2009 from 9am to view your Graduation Status Letter. This will notify you of your eligibility or ineligibility to graduate.
   
4. Any anomalies (i.e. issues preventing you from graduating, or change of name or award details) must be cleared by 5pm on Tuesday 22 December 2009 so that you can graduate. Note: the deadline for using BPAY to resolve any outstanding debts that are preventing you from graduating is 12pm on Sunday 20 December 2009.
   

If you are not eligible to graduate by the Anomalies Deadline (22 December 2009), your application will be transferred to the Summer School 2010 Conferral of Award and it may still be possible for your degree to be conferred early March 2010, provided that you have no other issues preventing graduation.

Presentation of degree parchments will occur at graduation presentation ceremonies in Adelaide between 12 and 19 April or in Singapore on 20 March 2010. Please note, if you are unable to attend the Graduation Presentation Ceremony in Singapore (March 2010) or Adelaide (April 2010) your parchment will be available to collect/sent to you, in mid April 2010 only.

Summer Semester Enrolments

Are you interested in enrolling in Summer School 2010? To view the courses available, as well as critical dates and deadlines for Summer School 2010, please go to the Summer and Winter School website.

Enrolments will open online via Access Adelaide for University of Adelaide students on 7 December 2009 at 9:00am. Students are encouraged to login to Access Adelaide a few days prior and complete their enrolment checklist so they are ready to enrol straight away on 7 December.

Change of Program for 2010 for International Students

If you are a current international student and wish to change programs or commence a new program in 2010, you may be eligible to apply online through the International Students web site.

Details regarding the application process, including the dates you must apply by, and when you will expect a response are all available on the above web site.

Internal Transfer for 2010 for Domestic Students

If you are enrolled at the University of Adelaide this year and you wish to change your program of study for 2010, you may be eligible to apply for an internal transfer rather than applying through SATAC. Internal transfer applications are open until 4 December 2009. Please refer to the list of undergraduate programs, available on the Internal Transfers website, to see if the program you are interested in is available for internal transfer.

Eligibility
You will be eligible to apply for an internal transfer if:
• you are enrolled as a Commonwealth Supported Student, and
• you have an enrolment in an undergraduate program at the University in Semester 1 or 2, 2009, and
• you meet the subject pre-requisites (if any) for the program that you want to transfer to.

• You are also eligible if you are enrolled in a double/combined degree at the University and wish to transfer into one or other of the degrees that make up the double/combined program

You will still need to apply via SATAC if you are:

• Enrolled in an AFBE place (domestic fee paying) and wish to transfer to a Commonwealth Supported place in the same or a different program.

An internal transfer process exists if you are upgrading to a higher level of some Postgraduate Coursework nested awards. See here for more information.

Student Grievance Resolution Process

The Student Complaints Policy and the Fair Treatment Procedures for Students have been superseded by the new Student Grievance Resolution Process. If you have a grievance about an academic decision, administrative decision, or unfair treatment, please read the new grievance processes, which explain the stages that you need to follow should you wish to resolve your complaint. If you decide that you need support and/or advocacy, please contact the Education & Welfare Officers at the Student Care Office.

The Student Care Office is located on the Ground Floor Lady Symon Building and is open Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm for drop-in, or you can make an appointment by calling (08) 8303 5430 or email to studentcare@adelaide.edu.au

Intensive Language Courses

The University of Adelaide’s Centre for Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) runs Intensive languages courses. Open to all adult learners, the courses begin in January and run for 10 weeks in two weekly evening sessions of three hours each. The course is designed for beginners who wish to learn a language in a short period of time for business, personal interest or travel.

The Theatre Guild is looking for new writers for the 2010 instalment of its ‘First Time Out’ initiative.

This is YOUR CHANCE to create new writing for Australian theatre.

Last Day to Withdraw Fail (WF)

If you withdraw from semester two courses now, you will receive a Withdraw Fail (WF) result and will still owe the fees for that course. The last day to Withdraw Fail from semester two courses is Friday 30 October. If you wish to withdraw from any courses, please log in to Access Adelaide.

General Library Training Sessions

Since August the Library has been running sessions on general research skills for currently enrolled students. Topics include Website Evaluation, Advanced Google, Library Databases and RSS. These sessions are designed to help students develop skills that will help them find resources for assignments and make their study Smarter, Better, Faster.

Semester 2 Enrolments

The last day to add courses for semester 2 was Monday 10 August. You will no longer be able to add courses through Access Adelaide.

If you need to add a course now, you will need to contact your Faculty or School office to seek approval.

Semester 2 Enrolments

Enrolments for semester 2 are currently open. If you wish to add or change your courses, you must do so through Access Adelaide. The last day to add most courses online for semester 2 is Monday 10th August, 2009.

August Graduations - What Next?

If you have applied to graduate in the August ceremonies, there are some things you need to do.

1. You must log in to Access Adelaide on Saturday 18th July from 12:00 noon to view your Graduation Status Letter. This will notify you of your graduation status and if you are eligible to graduate or not. It will also notify you of the amount of guest tickets you have been allocated. If you wish to request more, you can do so from the Graduation Status letter in Access Adelaide.
2. Any anomalies (ie: outstanding fees, change of name) must be cleared by 5:00pm on 24th July so that you can graduate.
3. You will need to hire your academic dress. Please visit the Graduations Website for further details.
4. You will need to collect your tickets from the Student Centre only on the dates and times nominated on your Graduation Status letter.

Winter Semester Fees

Invoices for winter semester fees are now available in Access Adelaide. Please log in and check your invoice for the due date of your fees.

Mid-year entry is an application round which allows people to apply for entry to certain university programs outside of the application round at the end of each year. It is ideal for those who are not coming to university straight after completion of year 12, and also for enrolled students wanting to change their current program.

The mid-year intake offers a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs and will be available for Commonwealth-Supported places. Not all programs are available for mid-year transfer. Please refer to the list on the Mid Year Entry website or contact the Student Centre for further information.

The closing date for applications for mid-year entry has been extended. Applications close Friday 3rd July.

Prospective Students: Students who are not currently enrolled at the University of Adelaide, who wish to be considered for mid-year entry to a particular program at the University of Adelaide, must apply online through the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).

Current Students: Students who are currently enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place at the University of Adelaide and who wish to change to another Commonwealth Supported Program within the university, need to apply via an internal application form which is available from the Student Centre or can be downloaded from the Mid Year Entry website. The form must be completed in hard copy as signatures are required, and submitted to the Student Centre.

Current Students who either are currently enrolled in an Australian Fee-based Enrolment program must apply via SATAC.

Students who wish to apply for a place in an Honours Program should apply via the relevant Faculty Student Office.

Postgraduate Coursework Programs: There are two different application methods for Postgraduate Coursework programs depending on the program you wish to apply for. To apply for some programs you must make your application directly to the relevant Faculty whilst others require online application via SATAC's GradStart application portal.

Census Date

The last day to withdraw from semester one courses without them appearing on your record and without owing fees was Tuesday 31st March . If you withdraw from courses now, you will receive a Withdraw Not Fail (WNF) result and will still owe the fees for that course. If you wish to withdraw from any courses, please log in to Access Adelaide.

Semester 1 Fees are Overdue

If you are a Commonwealth Supported Student, you are no longer able to pay your fees as they have been deferred to the HECS-HELP loan scheme.

Tuition fees for semester 1 are now overdue so please arrange payment of your fees immediately.

Invoices for semester 1 tuition fees and student contribution amounts are available on Access Adelaide.

Please note the Student Centre will not accept cash as payment for the following charges:

• International Student tuition fees
• Commonwealth Supported fees
• Australian Fee Based tuition fees
• any other tuition fees.

The Student Centre will continue to accept payment of these charges using the following methods:

• EFTPOS – both debit and credit cards are accepted (No Diners Cards accepted)
• Cheque – written to “The University of Adelaide”
• Bank Draft
• Money Order.

Christmas Closure

The Student Centre and Card Services will close at 1pm Wednesday 24th December 2008 and will re-open at 8:45am on Monday 5th January 2009.
