Student Net Access Plan

University Funded Quota

The quota for Internet traffic downloads which the University provides each period for students' University related use of the Internet.

Authenticated Access

Access to the Internet which is allowed on a per user basis. This is the situation with most staff and students. When accessing the Internet for the first time after logging into your computer you will be asked to provide your LDAP username and password (see other glossary item). All subsequent Internet traffic will be counted against your username and reported either to your Dept for staff or against your Internet quota if you are an Undergraduate, Honours or Postgraduate Coursework student.

Unauthenticated Access

Access to the Internet which is based on a computer's subnet address. This method of accessing the Internet is usually only provided for computer systems such as Web servers. This traffic is billed to the Dept.

LDAP Username and Password

The LDAP service is a central directory which provides access to other IT services such as email, Internet access and MyUni. Click here for details regarding usernames and passwords.
