Census dates apply to all courses in all terms and semesters.
These dates determine the point at which a financial liability is incurred for a course. Students must finalise all enrolments in a term or semester before the census date. Enrolments cannot be added after this date and courses that are dropped after census, will incur the fee or Student Contribution charge for the course, as well as a Withdraw Without Fail (WNF) or Withdraw Fail (WF) grade (depending on the date the course was dropped).
Commonwealth Supported students must complete and submit the Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form prior to the census date.
Students seeking FEE-HELP must submit the Request for FEE-HELP assistance form prior to the census date.
The census date is also the deadline for finalising payments - either full or partial payments of the Student Contribution amount for Commonwealth Supported students, or tuition fees for fee-paying students. More details about fees and payments - Student Finance.
From 2005, Commonwealth Supported Students will be allocated 7 full time equivalent years of Commonwealth support - the Student Learning Entitlement (SLE). Commonwealth Supported Students will consume their SLE at each census date i.e. if a student enrols in a course to the value of 3 units (which is equivalent to 0.125 of a full year load), their SLE will be reduced by this amount once the census date is passed. Further information on SLE, HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP is available at www.goingtouni.gov.au.
Within 28 days of the census date for a course, the University will send Commonwealth
supported students a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN). The CAN will
include information on the amount of SLE that students have consumed for courses
in a semester or term.
