Exam Venues
It is important to familiarise yourself with the venues for exams, as admission to the venue after start time will not be permitted after 40 minutes have elapsed. The venues appear on the personalised timetable on Access Adelaide, and on the complete examination timetable published on the Exams website, 5 weeks before the exam period. The main venue for SUMMER EXAMS is Bonython Hall, and for SEMESTER 1 and SEMESTER 2 EXAMS are Wayville Pavilion at Adelaide Showground. Some exams are held In-Department at a venue arranged by the School or Faculty on campus.
Primary Exams are usually conducted at Wayville. Access to staff parking at the Adelaide Showground will be via Leader Street. Candidates for exams park in Rose Terrace for a small fee.
Alternative Exam Arrangements (AEA) are usually conducted on North Terrace campus. The AEA venue is Lower Ground, Napier Building. Please see the exam supervisor in the foyer for room allocation. Some students may sit at an agreed location off-campus. Venue arrangements will be advised when the AEA application form is lodged.
REPLACEMENT/ ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT (supps) are usually conducted on campus. The main venues for North Terrace campus are Bonython Hall (North Terrace opposite Pulteney Street) and the Schulz Building (Level 3, above the Scott Theatre). Other venues on campus (eg. Engineering) may be used as required. Some R/AA exams are conducted In-Department and you should consult your School for specific details. All Summer R/AA exams are conducted In-Department.

Wayville Pavilion
- Wayville & Jubilee Pavilions are large spaces (7400 sqm) with a concrete floor.
- Approximately 3,000 students will sit an exam in any one session.
- It is air-conditioned and heated.
- Male, female and disabled toilets are located in the adjacent Atrium Plaza
- Seating plans and notices for students will be placed at the entrances to the venue (Atrium side).
- Students will be seated at a single desk. Open book exams will have two desks allocated.
- Clocks will be positioned throughout the hall.
- A PA system will be used for most announcements. However, supervisors and examiners may also directly address groups of students.
- see Map Wayville Pavilion
Seating Plans
The paper title, subject area and catalogue number of each course, as they appear in the final timetable, will be displayed on the seating plan outside of the venue. The catalogue number distinguishes between different groups of students, for example, first year and final year students, Bradford students, etc. Ensure that you locate a seat for the catalogue number in which you are enrolled.
Students should consult the seating plan to identify the seat within the section of the Hall identified by single or double letters, eg. B or GG. See Wayville setup. Students should make their way to the blocks for their exam where a supervisor will allocate them a seat.
Materials Allowed
Only bring to an examination those items which you need to undertake the examination.
Students bringing bags into the exam venue may be subject to inspection as you enter the venue. Place all the materials you will need on your desk, close your bag and store it under your seat. If you have a mobile phone on your person you must turn it off and store it in your closed bag under your seat.
You MUST BRING to each examination:
- your current Student ID or other photo identification; and
- reasonable supplies of all required writing materials, erasers, etc.
Materials permitted:
- a small purse or wallet, including keys, money, ID & credit cards
- one clear bottle of clear water, up to 1 litre in size (water is available at the venue)
- a closed bag stored under your seat
- any materials specified by the examiner, as set out in the rubric of the examination paper
- any materials permitted specifically for you under the Reasonable Adjustments to Teaching and Assessment for Students with a Disability Policy
Materials NOT permitted:
You must not bring into the examination venue any material which enables, or has the potential to enable, you or others to cheat or to gain an unfair academic advantage. Examples of materials which are not permitted include, but are not limited to:
- writing or other paper
- dictionaries, textbooks, notes or other reference material not specified on rubric of exam paper
- electronic devices including: diaries, dictionaries, organisers, laptop or palmtop computers unless specified by the examiner (and only self-powered that operate quietly would be acceptable)
- any drinks other than clear water in a clear container
Where an examiner permits, or requires the use of materials that are not normally permitted, the examiner will advise you in advance and a statement approving their use will appear on the front page (rubric) of the examination paper. If the rubric does not specifically authorise the use of items not normally permitted in an examination, students will not be allowed to use them. Where an examiner permits an individual student (unique to the rest of the candidates) to use examination aides (such as a paper dictionary), the examiner must provide written authorisation to the Examinations Office and the student must present a copy of that authorisation to the exam supervisor at the venue on the day of the exam.
An examination supervisor may confiscate any unauthorised material brought into an examination venue. Being in possession of such material during an examination constitutes a breach of the Academic Honesty and Assessment Obligations for Coursework Students Policy & Academic Dishonesty Procedures and will be dealt with according to the relevant principles outlined therein.
Materials NOT to be removed:
You must not remove from the venue any materials issued for use in the examination, or any copies of such materials. All such materials remain the property of the University, whether the materials were actually used or not. These includes scripts, blank answer books, question papers and drawing or scribble paper.
