Domestic Commonwealth Supported Students

If you study in a Commonwealth supported place:

  • the Commonwealth contributes to the cost of your courses
  • you pay a Student Contribution towards the cost of your courses
  • you may be eligible for HECS-HELP assistance to pay your student contribution.

Domestic students are allocated a Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) by the Commonwealth. To be a Commonwealth supported student, you must have enough SLE to cover the enrolment load of the courses you intend to undertake. Students who have used up their entitlement cannot continue to access a Commonwealth supported place.

Full details of SLE, Student Contributions and HECS-HELP are provided to you when you are made an offer of a place at the University, before you enrol. The following pages provide an overview. For further information, visit the Commonwealth Government’s Going to Uni website.
