Statutory Declarations

What is a Statutory Declaration?
A statutory declaration is a statement or declaration which is sworn or affirmed to be true by the deponent (person making the declaration) in the presence of an authorised witness with the consequence that the deponent is subject to the penalties of perjury if that statement of declaration is proved to be false.

Who can witness my Statutory Declaration?
Your statutory declaration must be signed by a witness such as a Justice of the Peace (JP). There are a number of University staff who are registered JPs. Refer to Information Services, Hub Central for a list of JPs on campus.

Where can I find a Statutory Declaration?
Statutory declarations may be purchased from Australia Post and stationers in the state in which you reside.  Online statutory declarations may also be available at a number of websites including  www.docdownload.com.au.
