Professions

The Faculty of Professions offers a choice of three free peer networking programs to its first year undergraduate students:

  • Bee Connected (first year undergraduate students in the Schools of Business, Economics, or Education)
  • Eagles (first year undergraduate students enrolled in the Law School)
  • PG Hub Networking (first year postgraduate student in the Schools of Business, Economics and Education)

Bee Connected

Don’t get stung, BEE connected!

The Bee Connected program will help you learn your way around the campus and the Professions Undergraduate Hub (ground floor, Nexus 10) where you'll be spending much of your time over the next few years. The Hub has its own language, characteristics and culture to absorb and BEE Connected will help you navigate this new terrain.

You'll be linked with a Bee Buddy. Bee Buddies are second or third year students from within the schools who remember what it was like to be a first year student in your degree program and will share their experiences, advice and knowledge.

Free food, fun, and informality are key features of all BEE Connected activities.

For more information about Bee Connected please check out the BEE Connected website, drop into the reception desk in the Hub (10 Pulteney Street) or contact Jason George, Undergraduate Student Hub, 8313 8069.

Eagles

A program for first year Law students that is designed to give commencing students a chance to:

  • Meet other students in the Law program from different high schools and backgrounds
  • Gain a student perspective of uni culture and life, particularly that within the Law School
  • Meet senior undergraduate Law students, often referred to as peer mentors or peer leaders
  • Enjoy the transition to University with informal social activities, free food and time out from other commitments

The program’s structure

A social event will be organised around the time of the Law School’s preliminary lecture during O’Week, where you will have a chance to mingle with other students and the Eagle peer leaders. Check the O'Guide for details, and view Eagles activities featured on the Law School website.

More events will be scheduled during the first three weeks of both Semesters 1 & 2, all of which will be attended by Eagle peer leaders. There will be free food and drinks - so you can relax and meet new people. You will also have the chance to ask the senior peer leaders any burning questions as you settle into the Law School and gain inside information from a students perspective.

Semester 1 is a time of adjustment to the style of tertiary learning which is quite different to studying at high school. Senior peer leaders can share their experiences about this adjustment and give tips on things like where to buy cheaper books, relevant services and entertainment in the inner city (for those coming from the country, interstate or overseas) and a myriad of other things that aren’t necessarily written down.

For more information about Eagles contact Beth Nosworthy (8313 5543).

Get involved.  Be a legal Eagle and enjoy a smooth transition to tertiary life and study!
