Students at a Smoothstart event

About SmoothStart

SmoothStart is a free Semester 1 program designed to help commencing first year students experience an easy and enjoyable transition from high school to university.

The program is specifically designed for students coming from rural, interstate and metropolitan schools that have few students going on to tertiary study. These students are likely to share the common experience of knowing few (if any) other students coming to university, and may be unfamiliar with inner city services.

The first SmoothStart event will be held on Friday 22 February 2013 in the Conference Room on Level 7, Ingkarni Wardli Building, with additional social activities held throughout the first term.

If you register for SmoothStart you will:

  • Be allocated your own Peer Mentor, an experienced University of Adelaide student who can help and guide you with uni life and share their experiences of being in first year
  • Meet other first year students in a fun and relaxed way
  • Be introduced to campus culture and geography
  • Learn where to find assistance with academic work and personal issues
  • Be introduced to the CBD area and services relevant to students
  • Be invited to SmoothStart social activities throughout the semester... can you smell the sausages and pizza already?!

So if you're considering, or have accepted an offer to the University of Adelaide for 2013, visit Applying for SmoothStart

I met four to five really good friends on the first SmoothStart meeting and stayed friends with them throughout the semester.
