Essential Criteria
Mentors must be in their second year or above, actively enrolled during the Semester 1 and must be available to commit to five core activities:
- Mentor training day (or parts thereof if an experienced mentor)
- SmoothStart Day
- Maintain weekly contact during Term 1 with a small student group
- Attend all social activities scheduled throughout the semester
- Provide feedback to the Coordinator as directed

Mentor Training Day
Monday 14 February
All new mentors are required to attend the entire mentoring training to;
- Build team rapport amongst mentors
- Clarify and discuss the role and boundaries of a peer mentor
- Raise awareness of key issues
- cultural diversity
- conflicts management
- information and resources
- Practise icebreakers and campus tours
- Allocate SmoothStart Day tasks
- Discuss social events and planning
- Discuss UniStep
- Clarify mentor expectations and reporting procedures
- Provide you with your program t-shirt and a USB of training material
You will receive specific information about the venue and times of the training day once you have been approved as a peer mentor.
