Study Tips

Making the most of your studies will allow you to better enjoy your time at university and help you become a desirable employee for your future career.

To find out what skills need improving to become a more successful student, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you know the type of career you want (can you clarify personal goals/objectives)?
  • Do you study more than the absolute minimum?
  • Do you have a good understanding of varying approaches to learning (are you able to be an 'independent' learner)?
  • Do you have good time management skills?
  • Have you selected the right course?
  • Do you understand and use the required reading material?
  • Are you familiar with the expectations of your lecturer or tutor?
  • Do you act on feedback?
  • Are you able to participate in group discussions and projects?
  • Do you engage in a broad range of activities (social, academic, spiritual, recreational)?

If things aren’t going well, you might like to consider your options. If you have any questions, the friendly staff in the University Contact Centre will be able to point you in the right direction.

Work/life balance

Finding a balance between study, part-time work and social activities can make a real difference to your life at university. It’s about getting all the pieces into place:
