Choosing Wisely

Choosing the right courses is very important – not just for your career outcomes, but to enjoy your time at uni.

Follow these tips to make sure that you choose the right Program for you:

  • Research! Find out about the uni, its programs and courses and ask why you should study at Adelaide
  • Attend the Uni Open Day where you will about all aspects of uni life – everything from the range of programs on offer to the cost of studying. You’ll meet the Uni team, start to learn your way around and get the chance to ask any questions about courses and what to expect on campus.
  • Research possible scholarships and financial assistance to ensure you have the funds to cover your uni costs
  • Speak to your career advisor at your high school or current institution to get advice and strategies on choosing the right path. You can also speak to Careers Service

Realistic Expectations

One of the reasons some students become dissatisfied with university is that their expectations aren't matched by the reality. Is this the case for you? How would you complete the following?

I thought that at university……………………………………
However, the reality is…………………………………………

Is there a serious mismatch for you between your expectations and how things have turned out?

If so, you are able to do something about it. You can try to adjust your expectations so that they are more realistic, or find out if there is something you can do to change the situation. Once you have identified the source of any dissatisfaction, you're in a better position to do something constructive about it.

So take the first step and talk to someone at your Faculty or School or drop into the University Contact Centre.
