Indigenous Applicants

Wilto Yerlo is the University of Adelaide's Indigenous academic and student support program. Wilto Yerlo is responsible for administering the foundation programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as well as managing the delivery of the Humanities and Social Sciences and Aboriginal Studies in Music foundation programs.

The Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) also offers a foundation program specifically for Indigenous musicians, leading to the Associate Diploma in Aboriginal Studies in Music or the Advanced Certificate in Aboriginal Studies in Music.

Indigenous students who do not qualify for admission to university via a SATAC application may be admitted through alternative pathways such as the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Access Scheme. Student Support Officers are available to provide advice on programs, financial counselling, study tips, as well as providing assistance for students with disabilities and taking action against discrimination.

Study support is also provided through the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS), a free program providing tutorial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are doing well in their programs, and would like to keep ahead, or for students who feel they need additional tutoring.

In addition to Abstudy, which helps with day-to-day expenses, financial assistance is available through student loans, bequests, scholarships, and the Equal Access Scheme to help with paying uni fees and associated costs, such as textbooks, etc.

Wilto Yerlo maintains its connection with Indigenous community through teaching partnerships with traditional elders in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands and affiliation with Indigenous education committees.
