Why Study at Adelaide?
The University of Adelaide, established in 1874, is South Australia's first university and among the finest universities in the world. The University is a member of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities, building the intellectual, social, cultural and economic excellence of Australia's future.
With more than 23,000 students, including around 5,500 international students from 95 countries, the University of Adelaide has produced Nobel Prize winners, Rhodes Scholars and international high achievers in many fields.
The University is small enough to provide personal interaction with teaching staff, yet large enough to offer a broad range of programs and outstanding opportunities for students to extend their boundaries.
The University offers excellent teaching and learning facilities: the Barr Smith Library, 24-hour access computer suites, and modern lecture theatres to name but a few. To help students succeed in their studies, we offer a range of on-campus support services, including a health service, counselling service, learning and disability service and childcare. We also provide scholarships and student loans.
Adelaide graduates are highly employable and often earn the highest starting salaries in the State and lead the way in finding jobs in their professions; many graduates continue their academic career by undertaking honours or postgraduate study. Our graduates are recognised worldwide for their creativity, knowledge and skills, as well as for their culture and tolerance.
The third-oldest university in Australia, the University of Adelaide became the first Australian university (and also preceded English institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge) to admit women to academic courses in 1881. Adelaide was also the first Australian university to grant degrees in Science and establish a Conservatorium of Music.
Since its foundation the University has produced 103 Rhodes Scholars, and is now known internationally for the quality of its programs and its high-calibre graduates, as well as having been acknowledged with high ratings in successive editions of Australia's Good Universities Guide. Grand old buildings and historical environs combined with modern research and teaching facilities provide an exceptional learning atmosphere in which students can achieve their best.
We have a strong commitment to meeting the highest intellectual and ethical standards in teaching and learning, research and research training, and to producing graduates recognised worldwide for their creativity, knowledge and skills, as well as their culture and tolerance.
