The Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement

The Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) is a Commonwealth initiative that has been introduced to assist in both national and international recognition of Australian qualifications and to promote international mobility and professional recognition of graduates. The Graduation Statement is additional to other documentation such as degree certificates and academic transcripts and is based on nationally agreed specifications approved by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). You can find out more about the AHEGS on the DEEWR Graduation Statement website

The Graduation Statement provides a description of the award, the awarding institution, a list of the student's academic achievements relevant to the degree and details of the Australian Higher Education System. It is intended to provide potential employers and other institutions with a greater understanding of the achievements of the graduate. Background information on the Graduation Statement is available from the DEEWR website.

A complimentary AHEGS will be issued to all University of Adelaide students who are conferred from December 2011. Some students will also be issued with an AHEGS as part of a pilot program in September 2011. Graduation Statements will not be issued retrospectively.

Additional Copies

Additional copies can be purchased from the University Contact Centre for $10. Please note that you get one AHEGS per award so please specify which award you require the AHEGS for on your application form. If you are looking to order an AHEGS for each award the cost will be $10 per award. For example if you have completed a double degree and wish to purchase an AHGES for both awards the cost would be $20.   Application form to request a replacement AHEGS

When will I receive my Graduation Statement?
Graduation Statements will be distributed with your parchment - either as you accept your award if you attend a graduation ceremony or by post / personal collection if you do not attend a ceremony and graduate in absentia.

Can I get a Graduation Statement for an award I completed prior to 2011?
If your award was conferred prior to December 2011, you are not eligible for a Graduation Statement (unless your program was part of the pilot in September 2011). Graduation Statements will not be issued retrospectively.

What is the difference between a Graduation Statement and an Academic Transcript?
The Academic Transcript is an evolving document that contains your complete academic history and it can be issued at any time. The Graduation Statement is a snapshot document and is only available when you graduate from your award. Additional copies of the AHEGS will contain the same information as the original.

Will my fail/withdrawal results be on my Graduation Statement?
Yes - all results are included on the Graduation Statement.

How can I request that something be added to or removed from my Graduation Statement?
The Graduation Statement is produced using a specified template, approved by the University, which meets the guidelines set out by DEEWR. It is not possible to add individual achievements or remove information from the Graduation Statement.

Will my grade point average (GPA) be on my Graduation Statement?
GPAs are not included on the Graduation Statement, they are included on the Academic Transcript.

Why are some of my results missing from the Graduation Statement?
The Graduation Statement will display any enrolment and associated result that was recorded against a particular program or award. If you have credit (status) for courses undertaken in a previous program at the University of Adelaide or from another institution, the results for those courses may not appear on the Graduation Statement. A reference will be included to direct the reader to the appropriate academic transcript for any results not included on the Graduation Statement.

What do I do if there is an error on my Graduation Statement?
Every effort is made to ensure that your Graduation Statement is correct however, if you identify anything wrong with the information it contains please contact the Graduations Office. You will be required to return your original before receiving a replacement.

I'm graduating from a double degree program. Will I receive two statements?
Yes, you will receive a Graduation Statement for each award that you graduate from.

Can I buy additional copies of my Graduation Statement?
Additional copies can only be purchased after the original copy is issued with your parchment. Additional copies of a Graduation Statement will be available for purchase from the University Contact Centre for $10 per award. Please allow 1-3 working days for collection. Copies will not be available until after the award is conferred.

Where can I find further information about Graduation Statements?
