Step 3 Graduation StatusTo be eligible to graduate, you must: Complete all of the Academic Requirements of your awardYou must have fulfilled all the academic requirements specified in the Academic Program Rules related to your award. Research students must submit the final, bound copies of their thesis to the Graduate Centre by the Thesis Deadline. Complete any Practical Experience required
If your award requires the completion of a period of practical experience, you must ensure evidence of completion is lodged with your Faculty/School by your relevant Anomalies Deadline. Be in Good Financial Standing with the University
If you have outstanding financial obligations with the University, you are not permitted to graduate. It is your responsibility to ensure that you clear all of your outstanding financial obligations before the Anomalies Deadline. Surrender parchments from a previous award
In circumstances where studies from a previously conferred award contribute to the requirements of a new award, it may be necessary to surrender the previously conferred parchment, in order to be eligible for admission to the new award. The Handbook of Undergraduate & Postgraduate Programs, gives details under Specific Academic Program Rules for each award. It is your responsibility to ensure any parchments, which are required to be surrendered, are lodged with the Student Centre, Level 4, Wills Building, or mailed to the Graduations Office. The Graduations Office will advise you if you are required to surrender a parchment.
Notification of Graduation StatusThe Graduations Office will notify you of your eligibility or ineligibility to graduate ONLY via Access Adelaide on the Graduation Status Letter Date. Ineligible to Graduate If you are ineligible for any of the above reasons, you have until the Anomalies Deadline to resolve those issues in order to be included in the event. Research students should note that the Thesis Deadline is earlier than the Anomalies Date.
For any anomalies with regard to your academic qualifications, you should contact your Faculty/School or the Graduate Centre. For any outstanding financial obligations, you should contact the relevant financial sections of the University:
Adelaide University Union - Education and Welfare Officers (emergency loans, student loans, housing/accommodation, union fees)
Barr Smith Library (library fines)
Student Finance Office (HECS HELP and full fee paying tuition fees) What happens if you are unable to resolve your problems and are not eligible to graduate? If you cannot resolve the issues preventing you from graduating prior to the Anomalies deadline, your application will become inactive and you will not graduate. Your application may be automatically transferred to the next event, however please ensure you check this via Access Adelaide and if it has not been transferred, add a new application. Cross Institional Enrolment If you are relying on results from another institution in order to qualify and graduate, contact your Faculty/School as soon as possible to negotiate a suitable time for those results to be made available. Supplementary Examinations Students who accept an offer of a supplementary examination, and who have applied to graduate, are not guaranteed to have their award conferred on 31 December. Please note: If you expect to complete at the end of 2009, and are offered a supplementary examination and are not still not eligible to graduate on the 22nd of December, your application will be transferred to the “Summer School 2010 Conferral of Award”. It may still be possible for your degree to be conferred early March 2010, provided that you have no other issues preventing graduation.
