Academic Dress

All graduates who attend their ceremony must wear the appropriate academic attire - gown, with hood and mortar board or bonnet. It is important to note the gown is open at the front; therefore what you are wearing underneath is visible. It is for this reason we recommend you wear business attire, and comfortable shoes. It is also a good idea to remove jackets and coats before gowning, as the gowns are quite heavy and can cause you to feel warm.

The University of Adelaide's Academic Dress Rules prescribe the academic attire for all awards.

The organisations listed below are familiar with the University's academic dress regulations and can assist with your hire or purchase needs. Early application should be made for hire of academic dress to ensure that the correct attire is available for you on the day.

No warranty is offered that academic dress purchased or hired from providers other than those listed below complies with the Academic Dress Rules for the University. Students graduating are encouraged to obtain their academic dress from  the GFP Group, the University's preferred supplier.

Hire of academic dress for all students attending a Graduation Presentation Ceremony onshore is provided by GFP Group.

Please visit GFP Gowning and follow the 3 Steps to order and pay for your academic dress hire (payable by VISA and Master Card only). If you are unable to pay by credit card please contact Customer Service at gowning@gfp.com.au or 1300 360 445. Academic dress hire for your graduation ceremony MUST be booked a minimum of 3 days in advance of the Ceremony day (to avoid a late booking fee of $35).
